Let's Talk Brushes! Brushes!! and More Brushes!!!

Today we’re talking about brushes! Whether it be a toilet brush, a scrubbing brush, a nail brush, a dish brush or a broom we all have and go through a ton of brushes and can do with some sustainable and effective options. We’ve got lots of plastic-free brushes for use around the home or even office space.

Our plastic-free toilet brushes are 100% biodegradable and compostable when they come to the end of their life, therefore reducing the amount of plastic going into landfill. They also have plant-based bristles, so no microplastic is shed into the ocean during use. If you’re trying to reduce the amount of plastic in your home, this toilet brush is a great place to start as they’re available to buy with either a silver or cream bucket.

Next up, the Plastic-free Scrubbing Brush by ecoLiving. Again, this brush is 100% plastic free and has plant-based bristles made from Union Fibre. Union Fibre is a mixture of Tampico (from the yellow leaf of the agave cactus) and Palmyra (from the base of the leaf stalks of the India palm tree). This meaning it doesn’t shed any micro-plastics into the environment. Try this brush around your home with any surface cleaner from our Bio-D, MINIML, OceanSaver or Iron Velvet ranges for a completely eco clean!

If you’re looking for something smaller the Wooden Brush with Plant Bristles by ecoliving might be the one for you. This brush can be used for washing dishes or cleaning around the house. It is made in Germany from sustainable Beechwood for the handle and natural Tampico for the bristles. It is also fully biodegradable.

Another brush you can use for washing dishes is the Washing Up Brush by Loofco. This brush is made in Sri Lanka from coir fibre twisted around a recyclable and rustproof metalcore. Pair this with the Washing Up Soap Bar by Loofco or Dish-Washing Soap Bar by ecoliving or with any washing up liquid from our MINIML and Bio-D ranges. Buying this brush helps to support traditional skills and crops in Sri Lanka while also ensuring fair wages.

Last up, our Plastic-free Brooms which are available to buy in our Loughborough store. Just like the brushes, the bristles of the broom are plant-based. It’s not always necessary to do a full scrub and clean of your floors, sometimes a quick sweep is all it needs. A simple broom for a simple task!

Wooden Nail Brush with Tampico fibre bristles. Moving on from the cleaning side of things, let’s look at the brushes in our Personal Care rage. The Plastic-Free Wooden Nail Brush by ecoLiving. These nail brushes are handmade in Germany using sustainable beechwood and natural Tampico.

Finally, our variety of plastic-free toothbrushes, starting with the Organic Bamboo Toothbrush by Brush with Bamboo. Every part of these brushes is 100% plant-based. The bristles are made from a base of castor bean oil, the handle from Certified 100% Organic Bamboo (certified by CERES of Germany), the box encasing the toothbrush is made from paper (no tape or glue is used) and even the wrapper around the toothbrush is plant-based and home compostable. These toothbrushes are BPA free and available for either adults or children.

Another bamboo toothbrush is our Environmental Bamboo Toothbrush. Again, these are available for both children and adults and with the option of soft or medium bristles. These toothbrushes are made from heat-treated bamboo to prolong their life and are completely BPA free. The bristles are made from a BPA free polymer resistant to microbial growth during normal use, to ensure safety and durability.

Last but by no means least, the Tio Plastic-free Toothbrush with Reusable Handle. Not a fan of bamboo? This one’s for you! Made from organic plastic, the Tio reusable ergonomic handle has a solid grip and a replaceable bristle head, fit with an optimally incorporated gap and sleek surface design to leave no space for bacteria. The replacement heads are made of cellulose acetate aka wood from FSC certified plants.

All our toothbrushes are 100% biodegradable however, just because your toothbrush isn’t fit for brushing your teeth anymore, this doesn’t mean it’s at the end of its life just yet! There’s plenty of spots around your home that need a toothbrush just as much as your teeth do. To name a few:

  • Grout
  • Toilet seat hinges
  • Taps and sink plughole
  • The gaps between shower fittings
  • Shower screen seal
  • Door ridges
  • Window seal and frames

Now let’s get brushing!
